Sowers: Boxes of #SafeGoodFood Vegetables

#nutrientdensepesticidefree #sustainablefarming

Everyone loves unboxing. There is a surprise waiting inside the box. And then, there is yet another layer of wrappings and unboxing within. It’s the layers that intrigue us. We keep wanting to discover more.

In the discovery of Sowers, we realise that decisions are about tradeoffs. Tradeoffs are not necessarily bad; they are simply choice sets. And they do change when circumstances change. But decisions have to be made in the moment and in the realities of, now.

In the design of the Sowers, we tested the passage of vegetables through commercial boxes, and how does the existing transportation services of the economy able to handle these. The reality is that commercial boxes are what they are, for transportation, and they do serve to protect the vegetables. In the unboxing trials, the vegetables remain intact.

Next came regarding the packaging. If there is packaging, how much can it endure? Can it endure a walk to the park under the tropical sun of 3pm, albeit a cloudy day. The answer is yes.

What if we remove the packaging – what happens? Which vegetables need this, which don’t?
The leafys do, otherwise they start to wilt, and the tomatoes do too. Otherwise, they get crushed.

What happens when you roll the boxes around, as perishables transport is all about speed. Even if you have a cold chain, there is the loading and unloading. There is always movement. Moving from places to places. The reality is vegetables on the move, will roll around. So, the packaging makes most sense. Optimise the box space, and hope the mother boxes don’t get tossed around too much.

Sowers is about boxes: unboxing the gift of authenticity. We discovered it today, and we decided on it today. Because indecisions postpone the inevitables, and what we find is, we only get stuck and can’t move on when this happens. Nature isn’t imperfect, neither is humanity. There is no such thing as imperfection-perfection. There is only life, and life is living. It’s always a little off-edge. And that’s what makes it exciting. No two same moment or gift or box is exactly the same. And we make common sense decisions, not rigidly bounded ones. Idealism and ideology can seem alluring, but perhaps, most times, would never feed us nor deliver us to safe grounds.

What is a gift?
It is that moment, when you reach deep into your heart, and simply dare to say: I love you.

And you discover, that it doesn’t matter if the boxes are commercial boxes, and slightly dented, as long as they protect the sensibilities of the sincerity, and in the case of the Sowers collection, earnestness of earth, and the #sustainablefarming agroforestry land developers, seed experts, agronomists, growers, harvesters, packers, transporters, coordinators, #nutrientdenseinsecticidefree fresh produce chain service experts.

The Sowers collections embrace #thekindgrowerbringingthefarmtoyou. We love the simple rawness and freshness of everything farm, and the passage from the forest to the farm to the forest, to you. Always to you. From you and to you. From humanity to humanity. From humanity to earth, from earth to humanity.

That’s what a gift is about. It says, this is me. I am already here. I am – it is what it is. I am the promise of #safegoodfood through #sustainablefarming that you have been waiting for. When you meet the reality of me, until and only then, can you truly understand and appreciate my long and arduous passage to you.

I got through to you, through thick and thin. And I am glad for it. I hope you are too.
