Food Forest Farm was established with a vision of providing responsible and sustainable agroforestry and agriculture in the markets as well as establish methodical, portable & trainable models for a future of sustainable land use that involves agriculture and agroforestry.

Food Forest Farm journeyed

  • from a conviction to a dream
  • to innovations to farm assets development to systematic growing systems
  • to product development to packing to building its own logistics and distribution
  • to supermarket merchandising to supermarket floor promotions

to sharing, collaborating and educating about Safe Good Food through sheer tenacity, commitment and conviction that the way forward for  Safe Good Food is one of safety, nutritional diversity, knowledge and integrity.

THE STORY OF FOOD FOREST FARM, SIGAR HIGHLANDS

Stories are actually very difficult to tell.

Unless you relate them with the truth of witness.

Of being apart of something truly incredible, simply unfolding.

Right before our very lives.

This is the story of Food Forest Farm.

It began in 2009.

My brother, Peng Keat, and his wife Billie, left Singapore with a dream to start a farm, together with my parents, Albert & Nancy.

Billie, 2009

We stumbled upon Permaculture as the origination concept for the land, which was to become Sigar Highlands.

We set up camp, and started Moonriver Lodge, a Sustainable Pioneer’s Capsule, with a dream of planting an edible 2 acres Rainforest Homestay.

Rainforest Natural Biodiversity

It came with a twice-logged secondary RainForest, and we needed a sustainable vision, to make sure that we don’t lose the rainForest biome for the trees and for agriculture. So we became The Forest Keepers too. So, we left much of the rainforest intact, for carbon sequestration and wildlife biodiversity burgeoning, as our most effective natural biodiversity ecosystem plan.

Yet, we would need to feed billions with #NutrientDensePesticideFree food.

With the business and economic balance that provides the rightful profession and skills of dignity, and critically, meaningful livelihoods.

#SafeGoodFood cannot sustain if we didn’t accomplish it all – the food system transformation. We knew that in 2009, so we had set a Jim Collins BHAG.

Geoff Lawton inspired us with the 7 layers of the food forest, so we had held that vision in our rapid-cycle prototyping.

PK & Billie attended a Permaculture course with Geoff in 2009.

Then Jim Fah, the inventor or autopot systems, and Ellis Blainey taught us with their gift of agronomy.

Dad, Albert, meanwhile, loves everything nature. He says everything living is his passion. He prototyped the nursery and continues to prototype many growing systems, including blue food (food in water). He also built the farm development.

Uncle Kon Fah, knows everything about forestry and forest-related economy, so we planted some forestry crops too.

Steve Capeness continues to guide us with integrated pest management through what he calls, nutrition farming.

Steve Capeness, 2017

Rijk Zawaan had supported through educating us about farming with seeds that yield consistent agronomical traits.

Food Forest Farm went to market, in 2012.

The Anthropocene

Johan Rockstrom on why food systems and sustainable development are one and the same thing, SDG2030 (UNDP)

We would have to succeed, not for ourselves, but for the state of agroforestry, that we soon learnt, has to be agroecology, as the data from Stockholm Resilience Centre, revealed about The Great Acceleration, and that humanity had entered a new geological epoch, the Anthropocene.

Nancy, Albert & PEK, 2014

The Holocene, where climate had stabilised, for agragian life and urbanisation that began with Mohenjodaro & Harappa, is going to change radically, unless we stabilise the geology of Earth, with great deliberation and determination, as one humanity.

These are our reasons.

Albert & Nancy, Covid-19, 2020
PK, Covid-19, 2020
#mataharieyesforfoodforestfarm, 2021. We did not lose a single person nor a single day during Covid-19. We chanted “No Sorries, Only Love” and we got us all through Covid, with intact health and livelihoods. We also did not break a day of supply even when the food road runs were abruptly closed during the lockdowns. We rerouted up to 9 hours to deliver to supermarkets.

Many people contributed to the journey of Food Forest Farm, and we would like to acknowledge your kind participation. Please bear with us as we share the deep story in precious unveilings.

As we tell the story of Food Forest Farm, please know that without you, Food Forest Farm would not have been possible.

And with you, Food Forest Farm, for our Earth’s children, shall endure and sustain.

For our Earth’s children is about humanity making a choice

– to take care of Earth’s children- everything Anthropocene geological about Earth, wildlife diversity, our children’s children and our vulnerable.

Billie & PK, 2019

Because our humanity simply resides in our daily actions, glowing and grinning, in the sun, living on one earth.

Albert Khoo, 2009 – who believes children, the vulnerable and humanity must never go hungry. SDG2030 Zero Hunger.

I drew PK – FFF Village – on his birthday in 2009. It was to wish him well for his new book – the homecoming to his roots, the local.

PK’s first herb spiral, 2009

So, in 2022, we made a children’s colouring book of the FFF Village. Please do look out for it, and help us colour in the FFF Village into reality.

I drew PK another set of artwork – The Viridian Arrival – in 2022. It is to wish him daring & flourishing for his new book – the homecoming to the skies, & back, the global to glocal. It is our new Playbook, this time, The Kind Grower Playbook.

He is the one who has had to go deep farm, and borne it all.
